About

Cassia Powell is an artist-researcher currently located in Vancouver, on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh territories. Often using surreal, personal, and speculative  subject matter, Cassia’s research explores the interwoven histories of fibre work and digital technoculture through a queer, counter-archival lens. These areas of inquiry are explored through a multi-disciplinary practice that includes drawing, textiles, and installation, as well as writing, publishing, and curation. Their current body of work investigates the smuggling of data or knowledge within textiles, technology, and archival practices.

Cassia is an MFA candidate in Visual Arts at the University of British Columbia, and a BFA Visual Arts graduate from the University of Victoria. They are a co-founder of the Dirty Dishes Collective and are on the Board of Directors for Access Gallery.
