skins / traces
Material play by “drawing with machine,” each of these works are inspired by Celtic “otherword” folk-creatures and meshes from 3D modeled avatars. Bridging digital/folklore and expanding on manufactured community and spaces formed out of necessity.
This project series looking at how queer bodies have existed in online formats, the ambiguities of being in and out of mixed virtual reality, and the feelings arising from existing in the simultaneity of hybrid social space. Building large-scale quilts that use patterns composed of skins from 3D character models, as well as combinations of glitched, low-quality JPGs, and other sources of interrupted patterns. The idea of building an avatar in a glitched world, making it real, and blanketing a body with something constructed by something as delicate as hand and machine.
